Best new releases: Pow!, Cherry Glazerr, Painted Palms

My top picks for new releases this Tuesday are a pair of debut albums from California bands: San Francisco’s Pow! and Cherry Glazerr of Los Angeles.

Hi Tech Boom by Pow! is 10 short synth-fueled cave stompers. It’s the first album release on John Dwyer’s (Thee Oh Sees) Castle Face label this year.

Haxel Princess is billed as Cherry Glazerr’s debut, though several songs were on the nine-track Papa Cremp from last year. At any rate, this is a great album, which swings from the upbeat California sunny sound to the slow, moody numbers.

Also, Painted Palms’ Forever is another full-length debut worth checking out. Based in San Francisco, Painted Palms is a catchy electronic pop band.

Check out the video of Pow! below (performing a song not on the new album).

Trick or Treat Dancefloor is an example of the slow burners on Cherry Glazerr’s new album.
