Live in Chicago: Dent May, Jack Name at the Empty Bottle

One of the more interesting small-show lineups this week is the poppy bedroom musician Dent May with opener Jack Name at Empty Bottle Tuesday.

While May experiments with different genres, he pays homage to some of his favorite singer-songwriters, like Brian Wilson and some less-revered crooners from the ’70s. (He’s fessed up to really liking the Partridge Family and John Denver.)

Name, aka John Webster Johns, is a Los Angeles musician and producer who has worked with Ariel Pink and played with White Fence. Perhaps they’re simply kindred spirits but Johns’ association with both clearly shows through on the new album Light Show.
