New music Tuesday: September Girls

SeptGirls_Basement_300Dublin’s September Girls releases a good debut album, Cursing the Sea, on Tuesday. While the Phil Spector influence (earlier copped by Vivian Girls and other bands that followed) is obvious, September Girls adds a tough, dark post-punk touch to the group’s songs. It’s one of the things that sets it apart from the waves of other female acts influenced in recent years by either Vivian Girls or Dum Dum Girls. The band also makes a US debut playing SXSW this week.
