Parquet Courts debut album, Light Up Gold, was so good it made year’s-best lists in both 2012 and 2013. Sunbathing Animal, the Brooklyn band’s sophomore LP is even better. There’s a reverence throughout this album for classic punk (and also for the bands that influenced and followed the genre). And yet this album is thoroughly enjoyable and fresh. The Velvet Underground is a dominant influence but fans of Wire, Modern Lovers and Pavement will find something to like here.
Though I dig the album start to finish, some of the best songs include Black and White, Bodies and Duckin and Dodgin. This is one of the best albums you’ll hear this year. It’s highly recommended.
