A Pitchfork fest journal

Dum Dum Girls Pitchfork 3

Four years ago, Annie Clark played a moderate-sized crowd at an excellent mid-afternoon Pitchfork fest set. On Saturday night, Clark, aka St. Vincent, put on the most dynamic performance I saw at the three-day music festival. This time Clark was the last act before headliner Neutral Milk Hotel — though she could have closed the evening with her electric performance.

The other highlights this weekend included a fantastic set from Dum Dum Girls (pictured) Sunday afternoon and a searing performance by Sharon Van Etten Friday night. Neneh Cherry sounded great Friday afternoon as she rolled out almost exclusively new material from her highly recommended recent release, Blank Project.

I usually make interesting discoveries visiting the (blue) side stage and this year the list included electronic acts the Haxan Cloak, the Range and the Field.

Elsewhere, Beck and Cloud Nothings played solid sets. Giorgio Moroder’s disco explosion was pretty entertaining as was Danny Brown’s show Saturday. Circulatory System was another good find on the side stage.
