My two favorite albums released in the past week are Michael Rault’s Living Daylight and Torres‘ Sprinter.
Rault’s album is a blast — a power pop journey back to the 1970s. Hands down, Living Daylight is the most fun album I’ve heard this year. It comes highly recommended, especially if you love Alex Chilton, T. Rex and other greats from the Me Decade.
Torres’ Sprinter, further establishes the Brooklyn singer-songwriter (real name Mackenzie Scott) as a peer with some of the best, including Sharon Van Etten and Katie Crutchfield (aka Waxahatchee). One of her first singles, Cowboy Guilt, even veers into St. Vincent territory.
You can catch her in Chicago May 21 at Empty Bottle.
I love the song Strange Hellos — a strong opening song for Torres’ new album. It’s one of the many highlights on Sprinter. Check it out below.
