T. Hardy Morris delivers rock-country gem, Drownin’ On a Mountaintop

The intersection of hard country and hard rock produced great results over the years (think Steve Earle, Uncle Tupelo, Drive By Truckers). If that’s a sound that gets your engine running, check out T. Hardy Morris new album, Drownin’ On a Mountaintop.

This album isn’t all twang. There’s a real punk-garage spirit — much like an early Replacements‘ album. Chock full of great songs, Drownin‘ is the second solo album for Morris, who also fronts the band Dead Confederate. The Athens, Georgia-based Morris also plays with members of Deer Tick, Black Lips and others in the side project Diamond Rugs.

While his first solo album, Audition Tapes in 2013, was a fine effort, Drownin‘ (out this week) is a smoking rocker. Among the many highlights: My Me, Painted on Attitude, Starting Gun, Likes of Me.
