I’m particularly excited to share my picks for this installment of Five albums to grab. Here’s a look at some recommended releases from recent months that you may have missed.
Woolen Men – Temporary Monument
Punchy punk songs from the Pacific Northwest.
Salad Boys – Metalmania
The Salad Boys are from New Zealand but the band’s sound reminds me more of UK standouts from the ’80s and ’90s (think Stone Roses and Teenage Fanclub).
Lou Barlow – Brace the Wave
Lou just put out his first solo album since 2009, a release that recalls both earlier solo efforts as well as Sebadoh.
Deaf Wish – Pain
Australia’s Deaf Wish creates a sometimes harsh sound not too far removed from Swans. At other points, it will remind you of classic punk and garage. Good stuff.
White Reaper – Does It Again
Hands down, one of the most fun albums released this summer. From Louisville, Kentucky, this band will appeal to fans of King Tuff, Jay Reatard, etc.
