We’ve come to expect a couple of things from each new Parquet Courts album.
First, the albums have been consistently good.
Second, each new release has a little surprise.
Whereas a band like Wire or Velvet Undergound may have been channeled on an earlier album, Parquet Courts pays homage to a new group of punk and rock inspirations, including Minutemen (Normalization, Violence), on Wide Awake!
Other Wide Awake! highlights: Almost Had to Start a Fight / In and Out of Patience, Before the Water Gets Too High and Total Football.
The Danger Mouse production adds a cool, weird twist.
Each new album expands these guys’ range. I’m looking forward to the live sets.
The band plays Lollapalooza in August.
