A little more than 50 years ago, the MC5 from Detroit played Lincoln Park during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. While other musicians reportedly canceled, the Motor City Five showed up to prove the band’s revolutionary grit.
Only months later, MC5 recorded the classic live album, Kick Out the Jams.
There are only two members of MC5 still alive, and guitarist co-founder Wayne Kramer is leading a band that includes players from several other groups paying homage, including Fugazi, Soundgarden, Faith No More and Zen Guerrilla.
It’s called MC50 and the band plays Metro Wednesday, October 24.
