In 1990, Bob Mould released his album Black Sheets of Rain, which was about as joyous as it sounds.
In February, the former Husker Du legend will release Sunshine Rock.
It started with a song that would become the title track.
“Sunshine Rock was such a bright, optimistic song and, once that came together, I knew that would be the title track,” Mould says in a statement. “That really set the tone for the direction of the album.”
Part of his newfound optimism comes from spending time and ultimately living in Berlin in recent years, though his publicity material notes that the new album also will have its “darker moments.”
Any new Bob Mould music is cause for celebration. He’s also planning a couple of shows at Metro in February.
Listen to the title track.
