The year’s best albums list will be coming soon. In the meantime, here are eight recent releases to grab now.
Technically, it’s four EPs (short takes) from Open Mike Eagle, Boygenius, Native Sun and Public Practice.
The full length offerings are from well-known ATYP favorites Kurt Vile, Ty Segall and Cloud Nothings. The albums contain consistently great original work from Vile and Cloud Nothings, while Segall’s album is a collection of reinterpreted covers.
Also, there’s the stunning new album from Low, which is among the best experimental music releases I’ve heard this year.
Public Practice plays the Hideout December 4. Cloud Nothings play Thalia Hall December 14. Kurt Vile is playing Chicago’s Riv December 22.
Kurt Vile – Bottle It In
Low – Double Negative
Cloud Nothings – Last Building Burning
Ty Segall – Fudge Sandwich
Open Mike Eagle – What Happens When I Try to Relax
Native Sun – Always Different, Always the Same
Public Practice – Distance is a Mirror
Boygenius – Boygenius
