Pile, Nots, Protomartyr, Ex Hex, Hash Redactor: Five albums to grab now

Nots

This is my current (and best) heavy rotation playlist. All five of these albums are exciting rock, punk and post punk albums that come highly recommended. And, bonus, they’re all available via Bandcamp.

Each album is new, except for Protomartyr’s reissue of its debut.

PileGreen and Gray

This is the seventh album from Boston’s abrasive Pile and it is stunning, maybe one of the best albums of the year.

Pile plays Subterranean Friday night and Do Division Street Fest Saturday.

Nots3

This Memphis garage band has consistently made great albums. The literally named 3 is no exception. And the band has something to say. The album is released on the Goner Records label, which cranks out excellent rockers.

ProtomartyrNo Passion All Technique

What a fantastic debut from this great Detroit group. It may be my favorite from these guys.

Ex HexIt’s Real

The second album from Mary Timony’s latest project is one of the most fun records I’ve heard this year.

Hash RedactorDrecksound

Members of Nots and Ex-Cult formed Hash Redactor and this release is a real stomper. It’s another stellar release from the folks at Goner.
