I spent each day this past week recommending a half dozen recent indie releases that all came out in March and April, a shelter-in-place soundtrack.
If you like what you hear, think about buying either physical or digital copies on Bandcamp today. The site, which features all kinds of great music, allows the artists and labels to collect the large majority of the money from sales.
On Friday, May 1, Bandcamp is waiving its cut, which means more money for the artists. In fact, a number of indie labels are also allowing the musicians to take the full proceeds, which is huge for these bands and individuals who count on touring to promote their music and earn money from shows.
So here’s a recap of my recommended six LPs, all on Bandcamp:
Ambertron – Mint Mile. Buy here.
Jacqueline – Jackie Lynn. Buy here.
Uneasy Laughter – Moaning. Buy here.
Void Moments – FACS. Buy here.
Auto-Pain – Deeper. Buy here.
Antarctica – Flat Worms. Buy here.
Photo above: Chicago band Mint Mile’s Ambertron is one of my favorite recent indie album releases. Buy it on the website Bandcamp today to support the artist.
If you’re shopping Bandcamp on Friday, look for exclusive releases that you may not be able to find on Spotify or other streaming services. For instance, I recently snagged the “lost” album from Disappears and Steve Shelley. Recorded 11 years ago, it was just released last month and it’s so good. Also, Big Thief is releasing demos on Bandcamp to help support its touring crew. The Hold Steady just released a new live album.
Just in the past day, I’ve been alerted to new Bandcamp releases by 75 Dollar Bill, Sacred Bones Records and others.
Here are 10 more 2020 releases on Bandcamp that I recommend:
Use Me – Hank Wood and the Hammerheads
Cha Cha Palace – Angelica Garcia
Traditional Techniques – Stephen Malkmus
