Live at Tubby’s was the first of four albums released on Bandcamp this year by 75 Dollar Bill, the New York instrumental duo Che Chen and Rick Brown, joined by a rotating group of musicians.
Touring after the release of the excellent 2019 album, I Was Real, Live at Tubby’s is a recording of the last show 75 Dollar Bill played this year, a performance in Upstate New York in early March.
I’m not often mesmerized by instrumental performances but there is something really powerful about this show.
“It was one of those gigs that had just the right balance of energy, atmosphere and that little bit of chaos required to allow everything to fall into place,” Chen said on the Bandcamp description. “With the majority of the tunes clocking in well past the 10 or even 20 minute mark, we were there to stretch out.”
