Duluth, Minnesota, band Low has been making interesting — often brooding, haunting — music, since 1993.
Then on the 2018 release, Double Negative, founding members Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker (who are also married) took the band into an exciting new direction that drew on electronic, noise, industrial influences. At the time, the band’s publicity statement called it Low’s “most brazen, abrasive” album of its long career.
Sparhawk and Parker continue this journey on the latest album, Hey What, which opens with the thunderous White Horses and draws us in with another nine compelling tracks that combine harmonies, hymns and sonic blasts.
Hey What is by far the most interesting album released in September and one of the best releases this year. It is highly recommended.
It’s almost BandCamp Friday, which means artists keep a greater share of the music sold on the site for a 24-hour period. Check out Low’s catalog here.
