Circuit des Yeux releases her latest, -io: Best new music

Haley Fohr is one of the most interesting musical artists recording and performing.

As her alter ego side project, Jackie Lynn — the fictional character who took a Greyhound bus from Tennessee to Chicago to get her start toward stardom — Fohr produced a best release last year. But Fohr (who is actually a Chicago artist via Indiana) has really thrived with her more than decade-long project Circuit des Yeux, which has created a unique, operatic, brooding and fascinating body of work.

On -io (pronounced EE-Oh), the latest Circuit des Yeux album, Fohr sounds amazing amid grief. Backed by a 24-piece ensemble, Fohr amplifies her sound to epic proportions.

“Take a break after track 5 or 6” as the album “is a novel not a movie,” Fohr recommends in a “listening guide” she prepared.

The album is so big and bold, I’m still appreciating different aspects of it on each listen. It is, of course, highly recommended.

Fohr’s Thalia Hall show in Chicago next month (November 21) is not to be missed.
