Collections, reissues and concerts: A 2021 roundup

Bush Tetras

One of the most interesting archival collections released this year, Rhythm and Paranoia: The Best of Bush Tetras, is likely an introduction for many people to the long-running punk band. And it’s a good one.

I was introduced to a pair of California bands, Fleeting Joys and Lilys, in 2021 through reissues of solid albums.

The year also featured interesting live recordings from the vaults by Neil Young and Can. But probably the biggest surprise was the rare find, a 1965 show by John Coltrane performing A Love Supreme.

Check artists’ Bandcamp offerings for other cool releases. For instance, Sonic Youth released a pair of live recordings from past shows to raise money for Fund Texas Choice this year.

Finally, Assembly, a collection of the great Joe Strummer’s solo songs and live recordings reminds me how much he’s missed.

John Coltrane – A Love Supreme: Live in Seattle
