Wilco releases countrified song ahead of new album

So the press release announcing Wilco’s new album, Cruel Country, has this interesting statement from frontman Jeff Tweedy on the new record and the first single Falling Apart (Right Now):

“There have been elements of country music in everything we’ve ever done. We’ve never been particularly comfortable with accepting that definition, the idea that I was making country music. But now, having been around the block a few times, we’re finding it exhilarating to free ourselves within the form, and embrace the simple limitation of calling the music we’re making country.”

The new song is great.

The album is expected out May 27 and the plan is for the band to perform it live at Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival in Massachusetts.
