Chicago’s Angel Bat Dawid is releasing Requiem for Jazz in March.
The album’s music, which was first performed in 2019 at Chicago’s Hyde Park Jazz Festival, is partly inspired by a 1959 documentary, The Cry of Jazz, that explored the history of jazz and Black history.
“The album is a wide-ranging treatise on the African-American story,” according to her publicity.
Requiem for Jazz is out March 24, released by Chicago’s International Anthem Recording Co.
