Shellac’s album To All Trains is intense, apt sendoff from Steve Albini

As we inch toward the middle of the year, I’m highlighting some of 2024’s best music. Steve Albini’s last album is absolutely worth a listen.

Shellac’s latest and likely final album, To All Trains, starts with the burner WSOD, a punch in the face reminiscent of so many of Steve Albini’s intense projects.

Albini died last month at 61, a devastating piece of news to the indie rock world that has been shaped by the musician and recording engineer’s influence.

The Chicago music legend clearly wasn’t mellowing as he entered his 60s. Check out To All Trains, one of the most exciting rock albums this year.
