Riot Fest makes surprise return to Chicago in September

Riot Fest headliner Slayer

Riot Fest said Wednesday that it scrapped plans to hold its 2024 three-day festival in suburban Chicago and will return to the city’s Douglass Park next month, an announcement marking a stunning reversal.

The festival, which has been in the city since 2012, was opposed by some community groups last year. After initially being held at Humboldt Park on the West Side, it has been in Douglass Park since 2015.

This year’s festival, September 20-22, features headliners Slayer Sunday, Beck on Saturday and Fall Out Boy Friday.

Riot Fest is known for its reunion shows and Slayer is a big one.
