Chicago punk godfathers the Effigies play Metro Friday

The Effigies were part of the first wave of Chicago punk rock bands in the 1980s, an exciting time for the city’s music scene.

Reuniting sporadically, the members began to record a new album two years ago. Tragically, lead singer John Kezdy, who survived a mass shooting in Highland Park in 2022, was killed riding his bike last year.

The album, Burned, was released this year and it’s a blistering 10 tracks that will take you back to the early heyday of punk.

The band will play a show at Metro Friday that it’s calling the John Kezdy memorial concert and record release.

Tickets were still available Thursday.
