Vermont’s King Tuff last week released his first studio album in three years, Moo.
The album was preceded by three typically catchy songs that happen to be the first tracks on the new album, which the King (Kyle Thomas) released on his new recording label MUP.
Thomas gets help on drums from Ty Segall and others but, otherwise, plays instruments himself. He produced, recorded and mixed the album. I recommend checking it out.
The high-energy New York punks Downtown Boys have been out of sight for even longer, not putting out a new album since 2017. But the band is back with a new single, No Me Jodas, and plans to release the album, Public Luxury, at the end of June.
The jarring track is a seamless transition from the group’s previous work. Looking forward to hearing the full album.
I highlighted Robber Robber recently. The strong new album Two Wheels Move the Soul is out this Friday, and the band just dropped another good track, New Year’s Eve.
Also sharing a new song this week, the great jazz guitarist and composer Jeff Parker gives us Like Swimwear (part one) off his upcoming album Happy Today, which is set for a May release.
Elsewhere, I didn’t discover Florida’s country-rock outfit Oldstar until late last year, but I’m glad I did! Of the Highway was one of my favorite albums in 2025.
Check out the new song, Whiskey. Clocking in at just over 5 minutes, this starts out as a ballad that builds amid distorted guitar.
Speaking of country, you should check out Jason P. Woodbury’s new album, Jason P. Woodbury & The Night Bird Singing Quartet, for more rootsy rock. Woodbury has been a music writer and editor for the excellent Aquarium Drunkard website.
This playlist below will be updated throughout the year. So, please keep coming back and check it out.
