I love the new album by Beck Zegans, a Queens guitarist who has previously backed up Palehound (another ATYP favorite).
Zegans new release, Engraving of Armor, is out Friday. It’s really good and one of my favorites this year.
El Kempner, who performs as Palehound, appears on a pair of songs, which just adds to the overall brilliance of this record. Obviously, Palehound fans will like this one but it ventures into a bit of psychedelia, too.
This is a really enjoyable album. Check out the tracks Riddle and I Want You.
New Cola (or COLA) album
Earlier this month, Cola released its very fine third album, Cost of Living Adjustment.
This is another one of my favorite releases this year. Much of the album mirrors the band’s previous output with some curve balls.
Check out Hedgesitting, Haveluck Country and Conflagration Mindset.
Station Model Violence
Daniel Stewart of Melbourne’s Total Control fronts Station Model Violence, which is going to appeal to fans of Joy Division and all the bands spawned and inspired by the Manchester legends.
I enthusastically recommend the band’s 10-song self-titled album.
Sleeveens releases National Anthem on Goner
National Anthem, the new album from the Sleeveens of Nashville (and Dublin), is a lot of fun. The album is released by the amazing Goner Records of Memphis.
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever
Finally, there’s a newish song out by another Melbourne band, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. Sunburned in London clocks in at more than 6 1/2 minutes! It’s worth a listen.
